Create and grade assignments

Assignments let you hand a student or a group something specific to practice and then follow whether they did it. An assignment points at content in the Library (a routine, lesson, or exercise) and carries an optional due date and instructions.

Create an assignment

  1. Open your studio dashboard and choose Assignments.
  2. Select New assignment.
  3. Choose what to assign: a routine, a lesson, or an exercise from the Library.
  4. Choose who gets it: a single student or a whole group.
  5. Add an optional due date and a short note about what to focus on.
  6. Send it. Ember creates a progress entry for each targeted student.

Track progress

The assignment list shows every assignment with per-student status. Each student moves through three states:

  • Not started until they open it.
  • In progress once they begin practicing it.
  • Completed when they finish.

Status updates as students practice, so the board reflects real activity rather than self-reporting alone.

Grade and give feedback

When a student completes an assignment, you can grade it and leave a note.

  1. Open the assignment and select the student.
  2. Choose Grade.
  3. Enter a grade or mark and write feedback.
  4. Save. The student sees your note on their side.

Grades and feedback stay attached to the assignment, so you and the student both have a record.

Withdraw an assignment

If you assigned something by mistake or no longer need it, choose Withdraw. This hides the assignment from students while keeping its progress history for your records.
