Metronome and drone
Two more tools live in the Tools drawer: the metronome and the drone. Both help you play in time and in tune.
Metronome
The metronome clicks a steady beat. Playing with it helps you keep time.
- Open the Tools drawer and choose Metronome.
- Set the tempo. The number is beats per minute (BPM). Higher is faster.
- Press play. Play along with the click.
Start slow. Get the notes clean, then raise the tempo a little at a time.
Drone
The drone plays one steady note. You tune to it by ear. This builds strong listening and steady pitch.
- Open the Tools drawer and choose Drone.
- Pick a note, like the key of your music.
- Press play. Play long tones against it and listen.
When your note matches the drone, the sound feels smooth and still. When it is off, you hear a slow wobble. Move your pitch until the wobble goes away.
Use them together
You can open more than one tool. Try the drone plus the metronome for slow, in-tune long tones with a steady beat.
