Understand your tone

Your tone is the color of your sound. Some notes sound bright and edgy. Some sound warm and round. The Tone Meter shows this while you play. It is in the Tools drawer.

Start the Tone Meter

  1. Open the Tools drawer.
  2. Choose Tone Meter.
  3. Allow the microphone when asked.
  4. Play a long, steady note.

Read the map

The Tone Meter shows a dot on a map with two directions:

  • Left to right is how bright your sound is. Right is brighter.
  • Up and down is how rich your sound is. Up is richer and fuller.

As you play, the dot moves. This shows you the color of your sound in real time.

Reference players

The map also shows dots for famous players. These are guides, not rules. They help you hear where your sound sits and where you might want it to go.

Aim for a target

Want a warmer sound? Try to move your dot up and to the left as you play. Want more edge? Move it to the right. Small changes in your air and your lips move the dot.

Calibrate your microphone

Every microphone hears tone a little differently. To make your readings more true, Ember can calibrate your mic. Open Tone Calibration from Settings and follow the steps. You only need to do this once per microphone.
