Use the tuner

The tuner tells you if a note is in tune. It listens to your sound and shows how sharp or flat you are. It is in the Tools drawer.

Start the tuner

  1. Open the Tools drawer.
  2. Choose Tuner.
  3. The first time, allow the microphone when your browser asks. See set up your microphone if you need help.
  4. Play a steady note.

Read the tuner

  • The name of the note shows in the middle, like “A” or “C#”.
  • A needle or bar shows how far off you are.
  • In the center means you are in tune.
  • To the left means flat (too low). To the right means sharp (too high).

Tune your note

Hold the note and listen. Make small changes until the needle sits in the center. On a brass instrument, your air and your lips move the pitch. Go slow and let each note settle.

Practice tip

Do not chase the needle on every note. Play a phrase, then check a few long notes. Your ears grow stronger when you listen first and look second.
